Project overview

A high-volume component producer struggled to maintain throughput and accuracy on a manual leak-testing process used for critical engine and drivetrain parts. Operators faced fatigue, inconsistent sealing, and variable test timing — all contributing to scrap and warranty concerns.

Southern Tooling developed a fully automated leak-test station with servo-controlled clamping, barcode-based part identification, recipe-driven test parameters, and automated pass/fail routing. The system tied directly into the customer’s quality database, creating a full digital history for every serialized part.

Immediately after installation, first-pass yield improved by 19%, and test-cycle consistency increased by more than 40%. The automated sealing and fixturing eliminated operator-dependent variation, while the traceability system provided reliable audit trails for every part leaving the plant.
